Arsenic and Old Lace

I love Cary Grant, I really do. So, I assumed that I would fall head over heals for the dark comedy Arsenic and Old Lace. I was so wrong, I think this clip might be one of the best parts of the movie. The gag is very typical of the type of comedy found in this movie, tried and true gags that leave you feeling like some or all of the characters are total idiots. It might be an amusing theater show, but as a movie it was just not my cup of tea. This may be sacrilege, but I do not like Frank Capra movies. I quickly change the channel during "Its a Wonderful Life" and I find the original "Mr. Deeds" too painful for words. The shiny earnestness, the slightly bumbling self righteous hero, the all American love interest with a heart of gold...maybe I'm just too jaded for these 1930s and 1940s blockbusters. So, perhaps I should not be surprised that even Cary Grant could not save this Capra movie in my eyes.

Ah, I **love** Arsenic and Old Lace. Such a classic...but maybe not for everyone. As cheesy as it is, 'It's a Wonderful Life' is also one of my holiday favorites (I like it much better than the lame Santa movies they come out with each year!)

I'm not really much of a fan of the Santa movies either. I will watch at least 10 minutes every year of the bizarre retro Rudolf movie, but that is about it. I also don't like Christmas music much (except wizards in winter, but that might just be because of that brilliant house lighting clip on youtube). I guess I'm just a big Grinch.
